The pastor of the Bethel Cathedral of Hope, John Baryogar, has urged a newly wedded couple to live their lives in conformity with principles governing marriage as instituted and ordained by God in keeping with the scriptures.Rev. Baryogar gave the admonition Saturday, May 3, during the solemnization of holy matrimony between D. Irene Kwanue, and Jimmy N.C. Bokay in Monrovia.Irene is the daughter of Daily Observer’s educational columnist, C.Y. Kwanue. Both Irene and Jimmy had obtained their first degree from the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University (AMEZU where their relationship began few years ago.“From this day onward till death do you part, the two of you are husband and wife; as such, you must live the life of a marry couple with the motto, “Love, not Hatred,” and shun listening to gossips. Do not entertain negative interferences in your relationship,” Rev. Baryogar warned to the delight of the congregation, comprising mainly young people.According to him, God is the maker of marriage, and as such, the couple should do everything at all times to satisfy or maintain their marital vows relatives to its principles.Quoting Genesis Chapter two, Pastor Baryogar said, “It is not good for the man to be alone,” because God has made for him a suitable female helper.Based on this instruction, he maintained that it was important to know that the one, who makes marriage or family, is still on the throne and, as such, “if we obey the principle of the Bible, we will get the desire results from our marriage.”Other officiating clergies included the Bishop-designate of the Bethel Cathedral of Hope, M. Wolo Belleh, Resident Pastor, Rev. Della B. Belleh, the Assistant Pastor, Rev. Augustus C. Tolbert, among others. The brief, but time-bound and well coordinated ceremony brought together friends, and relatives of the bride and groom as well as other well-wishers.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)
Belgium football expert Christophe Terreur has told talkSPORT about his country’s answer to Jamie Vardy. Gent forward Laurent Depoitre appears destined for the Premier League with reports suggesting 13 top-flight English clubs are interested in securing his signature. The 27-year-old has scored 12 goals in 32 appearances for club and country this term and a number of Premier League scouts are set to watch him in action against Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night.Terreur told Hawksbee and Jacobs of Depoitre: “He has the profile of a Premier League player – he’s a strong lad.“Some compare him in Belgium to Christian Benteke – I see some similarities but I see some differences.“He is made for the Premier League. Only maybe six [of the clubs mentioned are scouting him].“He is the best Belgian striker [in the country’s top-flight] but I don’t think the big teams are looking to him because in the winter transfer window he was offered everywhere by his agent.“Only a few clubs showed real interest – one of them was Aston villa for instance – but he was too expensive as they were asking for £14million.“His agent said in Belgian papers this morning that even some Chinese clubs have got in touch with him but he has a dream of playing in the Premier League. He wants that dream, he is not the type of guy in it for the money.“Belgians are not known to live far away from their country so I think he will move to the Premier League. I think Gent are willing to sell him in the summer because his contract is running out in one-and-a-half years so if they want to make money now they should do it.“We compare him to Jamie Vardy because it is his third season in the highest league in Belgium – he used to play in the third and fourth division. He made his way to the lower ranks and then to the Champions League and the Belgium national team.”
Fernando Torres’ 16th-minute goal put Chelsea ahead at Stamford Bridge, where a win would take them to within two points of Premier League leaders Arsenal. The Blues, who face Arsenal a week on Monday, were frustrated by Crystal Palace’s well-organised defending in the opening stages. But they made the breakthrough when Torres tucked away the rebound after Willian’s low shot had been tipped onto the post by Eagles keeper Julian Speroni. And Branislav Ivanovic missed a great chance to double the lead when he fired wide after being put through by Juan Mata’s delightful flick.Boss Jose Mourinho opted to restore Mata and Michael Essien to the starting line-up, with Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and Oscar among the substitutes.David Luiz continues alongside John Terry at centre-back as Gary Cahill is nursing a slight thigh problem.Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Luiz, Terry, Azpilicueta; Essien, Ramires; Willian, Mata, Hazard, Torres.Subs: Schwarzer, Cole, Lampard, Oscar, Schurrle, Ba, Eto’o.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 Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebook
The North Coast sport salmon season opens on Saturday, and it looks to be littered with unknowns. First and foremost, will boats be able to get out? The marine forecast is getting worse by the day. Saturday’s forecast is calling for 10 to 20 knot winds and waves 9 feet at 9 seconds. That’s big-boat weather for sure. For the boats that do make it out, where do you start? Conditions have been horrible for over a week now, so there’s no insight on where the feed is.Typically, commercial crabbers …
31 March 2014Cape Town beat over 160 cities from 14 countries to be named Global Earth Hour Capital 2014, the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF’s) Earth Hour City Challenge announced ahead of the global Earth Hour event on the weekend. The judges found that the city “stood out as a role model for the global South with a showcase of green programmes and actions other cities can replicate,” WWF-South Africa said in a statement on Thursday.“Cape Town also demonstrates how city strategies to reduce carbon development and battle climate change can also help tackle other development priorities such as food, energy and water security.”The title is awarded as part of the global Earth Hour City Challenge, a collaborative effort between the WWF and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives which aims to highlight and reward cities that are prepared to make substantial long-term efforts to combat climate change.WWF-SA praised the city for “pioneering actions” including the roll-out of a solar water-heating programme, community engagement on sustainability issues, and good progress in increasing energy efficiency, especially through a large-scale retrofitting programme for its buildings. The city also monitors sea levels and has begun education and awareness programmes highlighting the effects of raised ocean levels.Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille said the title represented an “international endorsement of our comprehensive efforts around sustainability … We are overjoyed that Cape Town has been selected from among so many great cities striving to create attractive, smart cities while tackling a multitude of urgent environmental and social challenges”.Six South African cities – Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and East London – entered the competition, with Cape Town going on to be named one of 14 finalists. Other finalists included Chicago, Copenhagen, Mexico City, Seoul and Stockholm.WWF South Africa’s CEO Morne du Plessis said that while the competition did not label cities as having achieved full sustainability, “it underscores the actions and commitment that can inspire other cities to work towards the goal of sustainability. In this respect, Cape Town has done us proud.”SAinfo reporter
As a section of the Congress is against any move to support the Shiv Sena to form a government in Maharashtra if its help is sought, past instances show that though the two parties have never shared power, they have helped each other on several occasions. Sena was among the few political parties to support the Emergency declared by Indira Gandhi in 1975. The then party chief, the late Bal Thackeray, had said the move was in the interest of the country. Two years later, when the Emergency was called off, neither the Congress nor the Sena could win a majority in the Mumbai municipal polls, with the Janata Party winning more seats. Thackeray had then lent support to the late Murli Deora to become the mayor of Mumbai. To justify this decision, the Sena had said the Congress leader was married to a Marathi woman and was the son-in-law of the Marathi community. In 1980, the Congress again received the Sena’s help in the Assembly elections as a result of the personal bond between Thackeray and senior Congress leader Abdul Rehman Antulay, the then chief minister. Senior journalist and political commentator Abhay Deshpande said there have been many instances where both the Congress and Sena made moves benefiting each other. “They have never shared power. But there is a history of both helping each other out,” he said. The Sena rarely extended open support to the Congress after joining hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in late 1980s and turning to hardcore Hindutva ideology. In 2007, however, it went against the BJP by supporting the United Progressive Alliance’s (UPA) candidate, Pratibha Patil, in the presidential election. The Sena had played the Marathi card then too, saying it couldn’t oppose a Maharashtrian. Five years later, the party again backed the UPA candidate, Pranab Mukherjee, for the President’s post. This time, Mr. Mukherjee’s personal visit to Matoshree, the Thackeray family residence, did the trick. Despite being political opponents all their lives, Thackeray had also sided with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, who was with the Congress before forming the NCP in 1999. The Sena founder had gone to the extent of saying that his party would support Mr. Pawar if he were to become prime minister.
The Indian government on Tuesday cleared the Pakistani team’s much-anticipated short tour of India for three One-day Internationals and two Twenty20 Internationals in December-January.The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Muhammad Zaka Ashraf immediately welcomed the decision with warmth, and disclosed that over 300 VIPs, besides thousands of fans, could travel to India to watch the matches. An India-Pakistan bilateral series hasn’t taken place for almost five years, due to political tension following the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. The last time the two countries played a Test match was in December 2007 in Chennai and an ODI a month before that. The tour was cleared at a meeting between a four-member delegation of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and a high-level team of the home ministry and the Intelligence Bureau here.”Present at the meeting were Union Home secretary RK Singh, joint secretary, director of the Intelligence Bureau, and other key officials,” a top source told Mail Today. “The cricket body was represented by BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty, Kashi Vishwanathan (secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association) who was representing BCCI president N Srinivasan, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla and IPL COO Sundar Raman.” Shukla, who holds dual responsibilities as a Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning, is believed to have played a key role in the resumption of the series. The source said that the PCB would be informed about the official tour clearance most probably on Wednesday.Mail Today was the first to report, on May 19, that the resumption of the bilateral series was “imminent”, based on what Srinivasan had said at a marketing committee meeting.Ashraf said Pakistani fans are already excited about the series. “More than 300 VIPs, comprising politicians and non-resident Pakistanis, could visit India to watch the matches,” Ashraf told Mail Today from Pakistan.”I have got calls from Pakistanis living in United Arab Emirates, USA, Britain and some other countries, saying that they want to go to India for the matches. They’re mostly technical people, like engineers and doctors, besides top businessmen.”Ashraf said he had a good meeting with Srinivasan in Sri Lanka during the World T20 in September-October. “He told me that the BCCI would hold a press conference to announce the itinerary and also formally inform us about it. Once that’s done, the PCB executive will meet and welcome the clearance as a positive one,” he said.”The resumption of the series is a good step, in the right direction. Cricket relations between the two countries should flourish and fans should not be deprived of matches between the two great teams.”Srinivasan on Tuesday gave credit to the entire BCCI for the resumption of bilateral cricket. “The working committee earlier approved it. It’s a collective decision; it’s a feather in every body’s cap… everybody in BCCI. It’s good that the tour is starting. I think it’ll be very interesting and good for cricket,” Srinivasan told Mail Today. He struck a personal rapport with Ashraf after inviting him to watch the IPL final in May. The bond between them grew stronger when Ashraf visited Srinivasan in hospital after he was admitted following exhaustion during the final match. “I don’t take all these things personally. I think it’s a great success of the BCCI. Cricket fans in India love to see India-Pakistan cricket, and I’m very happy that it’s going to take place,” said Srinivasan. The BCCI chief said that the government would take good care of the Pakistani team’s security. “India is a secure country. I don’t think there are any issues in providing security. It’s not an issue,” he averred.Srinivasan said that the itinerary would be announced soon, though the dates and venues are now known. The T20 Internationals are expected to be played in Bangalore on Dec 25 and in Ahmedabad on December 27 while the ODIs are scheduled to be staged in Chennai on Dec 30, in Kolkata on Jan 3 and in Delhi on Jan 6.Asked if top Pakistani and Indian politicians would witness the matches, Srinivasan said he didn’t have any information at the moment.advertisement
By Bharat Sharma New Delhi, Dec 7 (PTI) Bernie Ecclestone says Nico Rosbergs shock retirement is certainly not good for Formula One but the German will only be remembered as one-time World Champion and not a great of the sport. Rosbergs decision, though widely respected, opened a debate over the timing of his retirement, which came five days after he secured the world title at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. Can he be put in the same league of his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, a three-time champion, or the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, who have won four and two titles respectively? Formula One supremo Ecclestone doesnt think so. “Well, lets just say he is a world champion. The other names that you mentioned (Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso) have obviously won more than a few times and have achieved more. So I would just call Nico a world champion and nothing else,” Ecclestone told PTI from London. However, he insists Rosbergs absence from the grid is a loss to the sport. “Okay, not as popular as Lewis but Nico was a very popular driver. So his absence is certainly not good for Formula One,” said Ecclestone, who was lifted off his feet by a jubilant Rosberg minutes after he finished second at the Yas Marina Circuit to clinch the world title. The 31-year-old drove his heart out the entire season to halt the juggernaut of Hamilton, who was denied his third title in a row in Abu Dhabi. With his feat, Keke Rosberg and Nico became the only the second father-son duo to be crowned as world champions. His sudden retirement has created a coveted slot at Mercedes, who have been the Constructors Champions for the past three seasons. It is no secret that Mercedes are considering the experienced Alonso for the job along with others. If Alonso finds way out of his contract with McLaren and joins Mercedes, it will be the second time that he would partner Hamilton, forming a mouthwatering partnership. “A lot of people are linking Alonso with the Mercedes drive but I would like to wait and see what decision the team takes. He is a fine driver without a doubt,” said Ecclestone. On the new technical regulations in 2017 and the way ahead for Formula One under new owners Liberty Media, the 86-year-old added: “Formula One remains big but I think it is too early to talk about how it would be with new owners taking charge”.
