MovieGuide.org August 2014This year marks the 50th anniversary of the War on Poverty. It appears that poverty won that war.Jesus said you will always have the poor with you. He also said, “For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat….to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”In Christ’s day, Samaritans were half-breeds who were hated. To be called a Samaritan was an ethnic slur. Yet one day, Jesus told a parable where the hero was a good Samaritan. Jump forward to our day, and the term Samaritan is synonymous with a do-gooder.In 1964, LBJ initiated the War on Poverty to help millions of Americans “escape from squalor and misery and unemployment rolls where other citizens help to carry them.”It sounds good. In fact, a book written in 1968 by a prominent evangelical said: “For the Christian the ‘war on poverty’ is not a political option. It is a lifelong battle based on the mandate of Jesus Christ, who loved the poor.”In one sense, that quote is correct on the face of it. However, in the direct political sense, it is far from correct. As they say, hindsight is always 20/20. Who should help the poor? The church, the family, the individual? Yes. The government? No.Rather than alleviate poverty in America, the War on Poverty helped increase it in the long run.https://www.movieguide.org/news-articles/50-years-war-poverty.html#.U-q-D_4cSUk
Fiddes said: “He went to the Curragh and everyone was happy. We’ve just been taking our time with him since sending him to Eddie’s. There’s no rush, as there are so many races at home and abroad for him later in the year. “I think he’s definitely getting to the right place now and hopefully he’ll head for the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot. I think he’ll probably need another racecourse gallop between now and then. “Having said that, if he wasn’t cherry ripe, we wouldn’t send him to Ascot just for a day out. He’s a very good horse and we’ll look after him. “He’s only a five-year-old, he was a very good three-year-old and was knocking on the door in Group Ones last year. “I think we’ll have an exciting year with him.” Moviesta is on course for a Royal Ascot return following a racecourse gallop at the Curragh on Sunday. Not beaten far in the Nunthorpe at York and the Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp last season, the five-year-old has recently moved from Bryan Smart’s yard to join sprint king Eddie Lynam. Part-owner Ritchie Fiddes is hoping to see his charge line up in next month’s Diamond Jubilee Stakes if he continues to please his trainer in the next few weeks. Press Association

Infectious diseases expert Dr. Aileen Marty says a cornonavirus vaccine will not be available by the end of the year as the president said over the weekend. She says that there are at least 100 different vaccines being tested at this time around the world.Everyone recognizes that this is a horrible virus, so there is a willingness to cut some corners to see if they can get a decent vaccine out sooner. They are trying to figure out which vaccine is demonstrating that it is effective and safe. The study that is ongoing with the various vaccines determines if they are safe in non-humans. Then it will be on to human testing and there is always a concern when giving a trial vaccine to people that it will not be safe.Sunday, President Trump predicted a coronavirus vaccine is on the horizon. At a Fox News townhall, Trump said he believes a vaccine will be available by the end of the year.Trump admitted that he would rather have therapeutic treatments for the respiratory illness. He touted the hope that the drug remdesivir could treat coronavirus. It’s being fast-tracked for FDA approval after a study showed it could hasten recovery from COVID-19.

A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… audrey watters Tags:#Google#web Related Posts Google has just announced a new feature in Gmail aimed at helping us address the pain of the email inbox. It’s a follow-up to some of the recent changes that Google has made to help tackle email overload, most notably with the addition of the Priority Inbox. The new feature, only available in Labs at the moment, is called Smart Labs and it adds filters to your incoming email based on their type – Bulk, Notification, or Forum.“Bulk” mail includes any kind of mass mailing, such as newsletters and promotional emails. These are filtered out of your inbox. “Notifications” are messages that are sent to you directly, but include things like billing statements and receipts. Email from group mailing lists are labeled as “Forums.” If you already use filters to organize your messages, you’ll be relieved to know that these new labels won’t impact your system. You are able to edit your current filters so that they are included or excluded from the Smart Label categorization. You can also edit the Smart Label filters themselves. If you don’t currently use an elaborate labeling system, then Smart Labels can certainly help you get started by putting some of these very basic filters in place.Having a smarter, more manageable inbox isn’t just something that Google is working on. The new Smart Labels are reminscent of the service offered by OtherInbox, which also helps minimize your email clutter but then goes the extra step of sending you a nice email reminder with a digest of that “other stuff” so that you don’t miss important messages that aren’t in your inbox any more but in some other vast pile of unread messages. To activate the new feature in Gmail, go to the Labs tab under Settings and search for Smart Labels.
Spurs regard Real Madrid bigger pull for Pochettino than Man Utdby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveTottenham see Real Madrid as a bigger threat to keeping hold of manager Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Manchester United. The Irish Independent says United have made Pochettino their No 1 target to succeed Jose Mourinho as the next permanent manager. The Old Trafford club are prepared to pay a world-record compensation fee to tempt Spurs to release Pochettino, and are hopeful they can convince him to take on the biggest job in English football. But sources close to the north London club claim Tottenham believe Real are a bigger threat to their hopes of keeping Pochettino if the La Liga giants choose to make another managerial change at the end of the season. While there is a recognition that United would be an attractive proposition, Tottenham insiders feel Pochettino would be torn over quitting to immediately join another English club. “Review and approval processes specific to Fort St. John are now underway,” she added.Shopland said that this week, the City received approval for several water main projects: on 111th Ave. north of C.M. Finch School, 113th Ave. at 103rd St., and 77th Ave. at 90th St.He added that the only project awaiting approval from the health authority is the Local Area Service extension to the Tahltan Road, though he said that project had only recently been approved by Council. Northern Health spokesperson Andrew Palmer said that the engineer position, which is based in Prince George, has been open since the spring and will remain open until filled by a qualified applicant. She said that recruitment for the engineer position is ongoing, though all health authorities in B.C. consider the position “difficult to fill” since it is a professional engineer position.Palmer explained that Northern Health has been collaborating with other professional engineering services and other health authorities, using their engineers to help fill the gap and get projects approved.Despite this, approvals since the departure of the engineer have slowed. Shopland said that the City received approval for only one project – the water and sewer replacement along 92a St. – in the spring. In a post on his Facebook page last week, councillor Byron Stewart stated that City Council stressed to Northern Health that the current outsourcing meant that the limited time devoted to the City’s files created a serious backlog in construction projects in town.Palmer said that due to the backlog in permits, Northern Health has resorted to employing external contractors and prioritizing outstanding permits in order to get permits reviewed as quickly as possible. FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Northern Health says that it is working to ease the backlog of pending water main construction permits from the City of Fort St. John that grew after the health authority’s engineer left earlier this year.Fort St. John’s General Manager of Integrated Services, Victor Shopland, explained that any time the City installs or replaces a water main, it must apply for a permit with Northern Health. The application is reviewed by the health authority’s engineer, who looks at such things as the main’s separation from sanitary or storm sewers, and ensures that the correct processes are laid out in the construction plans.

He opined that Parveen’s ability “to sense the human (and that of animals as well) predicament in the most sensitive manner and then to express these dialectics in a cinematic way are her greatest strengths. The fact that she was from Lucknow said a lot about that place too”. On the other hand Saif Mahmood, who is also the co-author of Tahir Mahmood’s magnum opus ‘Muslim Law in India and Abroad’ said, “Not many know that the practice of ‘triple talaq’, banned by the SC recently, was not just unconstitutional but also un-Islamic. Prevalent only among India’s Muslim community, who follow the Hanafi Islamic school of law, this practice is not recognized anywhere else in the Muslim world. In fact, Islamic law is a progressive law, and only one of its kind, which seeks no evidence for divorce. Speaking further, he said, “The beautiful tehzeeb of Lucknawi culture, which sparkles in her writing, is the most stunning quality of her craft.” David Syiemlieh, Chairman UPSC, expressing his opinion said, “The small, insignificant and countless problems that people go through every day are presented evocatively”. Parveen Talha, who belongs to an old family of Awadh, settled in Lucknow after her retirement. She is involved with social service which includes working for animal rights. Veteran journalist Sadia Dehlvi, who engaged Parveen Talha in a conversation around the book along with Nalini Jain, spoke about Talha’s love for animals in real life and the unparalleled beauty with which she expressed every nuance of life in her book. Lastly, Trisha De Niyogi urged the readers to treat this book as a work of fiction. “Though the title points out to the burning issue of Triple Talaq and touches upon various social concerns like women empowerment, children psychology, Ganga Jumni tehzeeb, and others. Our concern for live issues should not detract the merit of the book as a creative writing.”
Microsoft announced a new game streaming project for Xbox yesterday, namely, Project xCloud. Microsoft is not the only one who has rolled out their game streaming service, Google announced a new experimental game streaming service, namely, Project Stream, last week, that lets the users play Assassin’s Creed in Chrome among other things. Project xCloud is a game streaming technology that enables existing Xbox users to play on any device that they want to without being limited to a particular device. This means gamers can choose either console or PC depending on their preference. Mobile-only players can also access the worlds, characters and immersive stories that they haven’t been able to experience before on a mobile. Project xCloud provides gamers with plenty of options and does so without altering the performance and experience of the game. “Our goal with Project xCloud is to deliver a quality experience for all gamers on all devices that’s consistent with the speed and high-fidelity gamers experience and expect on their PCs and consoles”, mentions Kareem Choudhry, Corporate VP, Gaming Cloud, Microsoft on the announcement page.” Microsoft Microsoft admits that Cloud game-streaming is a “multi-faceted, complex challenge”. In order to provide high-quality experience across different devices, it is crucial to watch out for obstacles, such as low-latency video streamed remotely, and support for a large, multi-user network. “With our nearly 40 years of gaming experience starting with PC, as well as our deep experience of being a platform company, we are equipped to address the complex challenge of cloud game-streaming”, mentions Choudhary. Microsoft had been working on Project xCloud over the past few years and aims to bring the public trials of this project in 2019. Moreover, Microsoft wants to make it easy for developers to bring their content to Project xCloud and deliver an amazing experience to the existing Xbox players. Developers will be able to deploy and dramatically scale to hundreds of millions of users across all devices on Project xCloud with no additional work. Microsoft has data centers in 54 Azure regions and services available in 140 countries, meaning that Azure has the scale to offer great gaming experience for players worldwide, regardless of their location. “We’ve enabled compatibility with existing and future Xbox games by building out custom hardware for our datacenters that leverages our years of console and platform experience. We’ve architected a new customizable blade that can host the component parts of multiple Xbox One consoles, as well as the associated infrastructure supporting it. We will scale those custom blades in datacenters across Azure regions over time”, writes Choudhry. Project xCloud was tested yesterday by Microsoft. The test was carried out on different devices (mobile phones, tablets) paired with an Xbox Wireless Controller through Bluetooth. As of now, the test experience is running at 10 megabits per second. Microsoft is also developing a new, game-specific touch input overlay that offers a maximum response in a minimal footprint to players wanting to play without a controller. Additionally, Project xCloud makes game streaming possible on 4G networks. “We are looking forward to learning with you during our public trials next year and sharing more details as we continue on this journey to the future of gaming with you at the center”, says Choudhary. When you picture the drug ketamine, you might think of that stoner you knew in high school or a bunch of people popping pills in neon-lit clubs. But do you ever picture a dentist’s office? Ketamine is often used as an anesthetic for procedures on people’s teeth. And it’s a multi-tasker. The Food and Drug Administration recently approved Spravato, a drug based on ketamine, called esketamine, to treat depression via a nasal spray. Here’s more about the FDA’s designation from The Verge:The drug must be administered as a nasal spray, patients must be taking another antidepressant at the same time, and it can only be given to patients who have (unsuccessfully) tried two antidepressants before. Most notably, people won’t able to pick up Spravato at the local Rite Aid. Spravato will only be available in certified clinics.Ketamine may not work for every patient, but for some, it may come as an enormous relief.About 12 to 20 percent of adults with depression don’t respond to other types of treatment or medication. That population is called “treatment resistant.”And some of the more commonly prescribed drugs, like Prozac or Trazodone, don’t have the efficacy we might hope for; studies show only around 37 percent of those who use these medications experience full remission.Journalist Alice Levitt is one of those treatment-resistant patients. And she finally tried ketamine. Here’s part of what she wrote for Vox about her experience:Each infusion lasted 45 minutes. After my first one, I had a nurse play the cast album of my favorite musical as the drip began. Instead of running wild, my mind became immersed in the music, albeit in a deeply dreamlike state. Each time, it took about 15 to 20 minutes after the effects of the treatment wore off for me to be able to open my eyes and start walking. Afterward, I was exhausted. The half-hour Uber ride home felt like hours as I longed for the warm embrace of a nap.Immediately after each treatment, I felt down. But by the time I woke up the next day, I was in less psychic pain and had more purpose. I would start the day on my long-neglected spin bike, feeling motivation that I’d lacked for months. Lunches with friends no longer felt like they existed just to show them I was still alive and making an effort to get out of the house. I was beginning to connect with the world outside my head again. I noticed myself smiling more. According to Shah, feeling the effects of ketamine within 24 hours of treatment is typical. “It is the most rapid-acting treatment for depression,” he said. After the final infusion, I had the initiative to start writing again. The following week quickly filled up with activities, both work and fun. I was living for the first time in months. It’s been three months since my last treatment, and I’ve even started to feel excited about my future. Shah says I am unlikely to need another dose — I was in the roughly 70 percent who achieve remission after one series of ketamine infusions. And while the research still doesn’t conclusively show that esketamine or ketamine causes depression to go away, the FDA said it approved Spravado because patients needed a new alternative. How do we treat an illness that affects millions of Americans?
