JERSEY CITY – Made famous for jokingly asking for Viagra as part of a bribe payment, former Freeholder William Braker was found dead in his home on Dec. 21.Braker, 71, a former police officer, served five terms a freeholder before resigning in 2004 after being charged with accepting bribes.Braker was part of a corruption scandal that involved former Hudson County Executive Robert Janiszewski, and was targeted as a result of Janiszewski plea deal to reduce his own sentence for corruption.Braker’s attempt to unveil a wider net of corruption failed when a court refused to allow him to use federally protected recordings in his defense.Braker eventually pleaded guilty to one charge of extortion, for which he was sentenced to three years in federal prison. Years after his release, he was elected as the head of the local chapter of the NAACP, but declined to seek reelection after a tape surfaced showing him in an alleged intoxicated state. As a cop and freeholder, Braker was well-respected, but most believe that his dedication to the Janiszewski administration brought about his downfall.

A Donegal takeaway was ordered to close after dangerous food safety practices were discovered during an inspection. The Spicy Hut in Carrigart was served with a closure order from the Food Safety Authority in April after the discovery of hygiene issues that presented a ‘grave and immediate danger’.Sewage and waste was observed overflowing from an open drain in the rear yard of the Main Street takeaway, risking a transfer of faecal matter to the kitchen and the risk of contamination of food. A lack of pest control and a lack of effective cleaning and disinfection practices were also discovered in Spicy Hut. The inspector’s report said this failure to ensure food was protected from contamination was “likely to render the food unfit for human consumption or injurious to health”.The report also stated that there was a failure to ensure adequate provision for storage of food waste at the restaurant.“Bins were overflowing, food waste was stored in open containers and items of food were discarded throughout the rear yard of the premises,” the inspector wrote. The closure order was served under the FSAI Act 1998 on 11th April 2019 and lifted five days later. Speaking on the announcement of the latest FSAI enforcement orders nationwide, Dr Pamela Byrne, Chief Executive, emphasised that some food businesses are not providing adequate regard for their customers if they are not maintaining a clean and hygienic premises.Dr Byrne said: “The Enforcement Orders served in April were mainly due to premises being found to have poor and, in some cases, very low hygiene standards in place. Some of these premises have demonstrated a complete lack of concern for the health of both their customers and their staff who eat at or work in their establishments. These inadequate food safety practices are completely unacceptable in any food business.“I would remind food businesses that the legal responsibility for producing safe food lies firmly with them. It is disappointing to see that some food businesses are failing to operate stringent food safety practices to ensure that the food they are producing and selling to their customers is safe to eat,” Dr Byrne concluded.‘Overflowing sewage and waste’ led to Donegal takeaway closure was last modified: May 9th, 2019 by Staff WriterShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Carrigartfood safety
(Visited 5 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0 In the upcoming June 20 issue of Forbes magazine, British historian Paul Johnson attacks the fundamentalism of Darwinists, and predicts its demise:Of all the fundamentalist groups at large in the world today, the Darwinians seem to me the most objectionable. They are just as strident and closed to argument as Christian or Muslim fundamentalists, but unlike those two groups the Darwinians enjoy intellectual respectability. Darwinians and their allies dominate the scientific establishments of the West. They rule the campus. Their militant brand of atheism makes them natural allies of the philosophical atheists who control most college philosophy faculties. They dominate the leading scientific magazines and prevent their critics and opponents from getting a hearing, and they secure the best slots on TV. Yet the Darwinian brand of evolution is becoming increasingly vulnerable as the progress of science reveals its weaknesses. One day, perhaps soon, it will collapse in ruins. (Emphasis added in all quotes.)The entire article has been reprinted by the Discovery Institute. For all his worthy tirade against the Darwinists, Johnson seems to accept the big bang theory and cosmic time with uncritical gullibility. Then he adopts a front-loading design philosophy, misreading Newton as having taught an impersonal Force. Then, apparently after assuming the front-loaded design produced human beings, he inserts a divine intervention at the origin of language. These strange thoughts diminish an otherwise interesting prophecy about the fall of Darwinism. Johnson also seems to know little about fundamentalism other than the yellow-journalism stereotype. He defines it as stridency and closed-mindedness. That is not what the term meant when Christian scholars like J. Gresham Machen used the word. They were identifying what Biblical doctrines, what “fundamentals,” could not be compromised without cutting into the flesh of Christianity. Would Johnson walk into many “fundamentalist” Christian churches today, he would see the opposite of stridency and closed-mindedness. He would not see the image of Muslims toting AK47s and burning flags, screaming death to America. He would not see the image of Darwinians censoring any opposition. He would likely see humble and joyful people, singing praises to God, welcoming the stranger and asking, “How can I pray for you?”

Spurs regard Real Madrid bigger pull for Pochettino than Man Utdby Paul Vegas10 months agoSend to a friendShare the loveTottenham see Real Madrid as a bigger threat to keeping hold of manager Mauricio Pochettino ahead of Manchester United. The Irish Independent says United have made Pochettino their No 1 target to succeed Jose Mourinho as the next permanent manager. The Old Trafford club are prepared to pay a world-record compensation fee to tempt Spurs to release Pochettino, and are hopeful they can convince him to take on the biggest job in English football. But sources close to the north London club claim Tottenham believe Real are a bigger threat to their hopes of keeping Pochettino if the La Liga giants choose to make another managerial change at the end of the season. While there is a recognition that United would be an attractive proposition, Tottenham insiders feel Pochettino would be torn over quitting to immediately join another English club. “Review and approval processes specific to Fort St. John are now underway,” she added.Shopland said that this week, the City received approval for several water main projects: on 111th Ave. north of C.M. Finch School, 113th Ave. at 103rd St., and 77th Ave. at 90th St.He added that the only project awaiting approval from the health authority is the Local Area Service extension to the Tahltan Road, though he said that project had only recently been approved by Council. Northern Health spokesperson Andrew Palmer said that the engineer position, which is based in Prince George, has been open since the spring and will remain open until filled by a qualified applicant. She said that recruitment for the engineer position is ongoing, though all health authorities in B.C. consider the position “difficult to fill” since it is a professional engineer position.Palmer explained that Northern Health has been collaborating with other professional engineering services and other health authorities, using their engineers to help fill the gap and get projects approved.Despite this, approvals since the departure of the engineer have slowed. Shopland said that the City received approval for only one project – the water and sewer replacement along 92a St. – in the spring. In a post on his Facebook page last week, councillor Byron Stewart stated that City Council stressed to Northern Health that the current outsourcing meant that the limited time devoted to the City’s files created a serious backlog in construction projects in town.Palmer said that due to the backlog in permits, Northern Health has resorted to employing external contractors and prioritizing outstanding permits in order to get permits reviewed as quickly as possible. FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Northern Health says that it is working to ease the backlog of pending water main construction permits from the City of Fort St. John that grew after the health authority’s engineer left earlier this year.Fort St. John’s General Manager of Integrated Services, Victor Shopland, explained that any time the City installs or replaces a water main, it must apply for a permit with Northern Health. The application is reviewed by the health authority’s engineer, who looks at such things as the main’s separation from sanitary or storm sewers, and ensures that the correct processes are laid out in the construction plans.

OSU then-sophomore Taylor White (21) makes a catch during a game against Penn State on April 6 at Buckeye Field. Credit: Lantern file photoThe Ohio State softball team (15-7) opens Big Ten play this weekend with a road series against Maryland (7-20-1).The Buckeyes enter conference play battle tested after a 22-game nonconference schedule, which included seven games against current top-25 teams. OSU saw victory in just one of those games — a 10-2 win over No. 25 North Carolina — but the difficult schedule will help the team in the long run, sophomore outfielder Bri Betschel said.“I think it helps us know the ability we have with our team,” she said. “We’ve not always come out with what we’ve wanted, but at the end of the game we know that we can compete with these teams and that we can win the big games.”Though the Buckeyes are just 1-6 against ranked teams this season, they have taken care of business against inferior opponents thus far, losing just once to an unranked team with that lone loss coming to Louisville, which received votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. The same cannot be said of Maryland. The Terrapins lost 20 of their first 28 games, and 14 of those losses were against unranked opponents.Despite its lackluster record and bad losses, Maryland has proven itself dangerous, even to the nation’s top teams. Earlier this season, the Terrapins handed top-ranked Florida its only loss of the season on its home field.Since it’s a conference matchup, the Buckeyes will face off against Maryland in a three-game series this weekend, which is a change of pace from what OSU has seen so far this season. Previously, the Buckeyes have played each team just once.“Weekend series definitely have a different feel,” OSU coach Kelly Schoenly said. “It’s a little bit more of a chess match and paying attention to the small details you might be able to exploit.”Maryland is just the first of eight series the Buckeyes face as part of their Big Ten conference slate. Though OSU is not slated to face No. 8 Minnesota or No. 21 Wisconsin during the regular season, the team does have one ranked opponent left on its schedule: No. 18 Michigan.Obviously, OSU wanted to do well during nonconference play, but now that Big Ten play is beginning and conference records and standings will start to count, there’s a little more to play for.“I think every game is important to us as a team,” Betschel said. “But going into Big Tens, it’s a little bit more intense.”The Buckeyes will look to channel that intensity into wins this weekend before playing at home for the first time on Wednesday when they host Wright State.
Manchester United must keep Anthony Martial at the club says Wayne Rooney. The French forward is reportedly unhappy at Old Trafford but Rooney insists the club must make sure he doesn’t leave. Nacho Fernandez has revealed plans to see out his playing career at Real MadridThe Spanish full-back has been on the club books since the age of 11 and made his first-team debut in a 6–3 away win against Valencia in April 2011.Since then, Nacho has made 161 appearances in all competitions for Real and was a valuable member of the squad last season that sealed the Champions League title for a third season in succession.Like past greats, such as Francisco Totti and Paolo Maldini, the 28-year-old intends to remain a one-club player by seeing out the remainder of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.“My plan is to finish my career at home,” he said in an interview with GQ, via Marca.“In the career of any athlete there are stages where you do not do everything you would like, fortunately I’ve had two spectacular years on a personal and professional level and there is no better place for me than Real Madrid.Zidane reveals Sergio Ramos injury concern for Real Madrid Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Zinedine Zidane has put Sergio Ramos’ availability for Real Madrid’s trip to Sevilla next weekend in doubt after withdrawing him against Levante.“The demand is the highest, but my idea is to keep the pace and finish my career at home.”Nacho missed out on Spain’s golden era that saw the national side claim the World Cup title in 2010, as well as back-to-back European crowns in 2008 and 2012.The left-back made his debut for the national side in September 2013.“I would like to get rid of the thorn of the last World Cup and win an important tournament with Spain,” he said.Nacho currently has under two years left on his current contract at Real.

This area gets busy during the height of sockeye season, but you can still find all fish species native to the Kenai River, according to Refuge officials. This area is unique because it is one of a very few places where anglers can fish for sockeye without having to be in the water. Facebook0TwitterEmailPrintFriendly分享The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge has announced the opening of the Upper Moose Range Meadows fishing boardwalk for fishing starting yesterday, July 18. The Refuge is advising anglers to “Please be careful as the high water is a bit hazardous.” The Upper Moose Range Meadows is located down Redoubt Ave. (and behind the Fred Meyer) in Soldotna. The boardwalk sits roughly 5 to 10 feet above the water so anglers will need to use a heavier weight to ensure their fly reaches the right depth quickly enough, and will not be able to use a very long leader.
The challenge of needing to find a new job every few years is a significant burden for military spouses, but there are strategies that can make their plight easier. To avoid extended gaps in their employment history, spouses should consider taking advantage of volunteering opportunities, said Shonte Gonzalez, an Airmen and Family Readiness Center community readiness specialist who counsels job hunting spouses at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.“It’s not paid, but it’s a job,” Gonzalez told the Dayton Daily News.“Their gaps in employment are probably one of the biggest things that are stressful to them,” she said. Many Dayton area employers, however, understand the work history gaps that may accompany military life as a spouse.Gillian Russell, a U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation associate with the Hiring Our Heroes program, emphasized the need for military spouses to highlight the contributions they make outside of the workplace.“They might not be working, they might have flaws in their resume, but what they are doing is they are volunteering, they are helping to run the bases, they’re helping to make sure that families are looked after while service members are away, and all of these skills make them absolutely fantastic employees,” Russell said.Military spouses have organizational and leadership skills that employers seek, said Chris Phillips, a PNC Bank diversity specialist who recruits military spouses.“They’re the caregiver, they’re the ones that manage the household so they’ve very loyal to an employer and it makes good business sense to us,” Phillips said.To be sure, military spouses face a number of hurdles to find a job, according to the story. A 2013 study found that 90 percent of female spouses of active-duty service members were underemployed, or had more education and experience than needed for their jobs, according to the Institute for Veterans and Military Families at Syracuse University.“That was the biggest finding and probably gave a broader picture of the employment situation of a military spouse,” said Rosalinda Maury, the institute’s director of applied research and analytics. “It’s not just unemployment, it’s underemployment.” Dan Cohen AUTHOR
