first_imgA DONEGAL man who fought a legal battle over a drugs supplier charge and lost has been fined €1,000 for various offences.Peter Wilson, from Windmill View in Letterkenny, had contested a charge of possession drugs with intent to supply after gardai found €432 worth of cocaine in his car when he was stopped.Wilson was also facing motoring offences. Inspector Michael Harrison told Letterkenny District Court that Wilson was stopped by gardai in April 2013.A subsequent search of his car uncovered the cocaine – and a small amount of cannabis worth around €4 was found at this homeDefence solicitor Kevin McElhinney reminded Judge Paul Kelly that Wilson had contested the more serious charge of possession with intent to supply at an earlier hearing but had been found guilty.“He was on his way to a card game and he was unfortunate that he was the one tasked with collecting the cocaine to take it to the card game,” said Mr McElhinney who said his client was not a dealer.Inspector Harrison also told the court about motoring offences on Feb 24, 2013 involving Wilson and his silver Mercedes car.Garda Derek Connaughton had gone to check the vehicle when it was parked at the side of the road at Brownknowe, Ramelton.As the garda was chatting to Wilson, the motorist said “F*** this” and then sped off, said the inspector.“Garda Connaughton had to jump out of the way,” the inspector added.The Mercedes sped off in the direction of Rathmullan.Mr McElhinney said Wilson had driven off because had panicked because his car wasn’t insured.He said Wilson was now working as a carpenter in the UK.
