But on Thursday there was none.By Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — The Wellington High School girls softball team opened the 2013-14 campaign Thursday at Worden Park. But the new scoreboards were a no show.Worden Park is getting two new scoreboards for the east varsity and junior varsity softball fields. The new scoreboards will look basically the same but will have LED bulbs which will be more energy efficient and provide more light to the board.Wellington City Director of Public Works Jeremy Jones said unfortunately the swapping of the softball scoreboards didn’t get done in time. The new brackets to hold up the scoreboard were still in need of getting installed before the new boards was to be put in place. Jones said the city was waiting for a dry enough day to do the scoreboard swapping.“We’ll have that done by Monday’s softball game,” Jones said. Wellington girls will be hosting Rose Hill Monday. The city of Wellington has been a busy group of workers lately. Currently, lights have been erected on the new improved Vandenburgh Ave. Also, the city expects to start putting up new lights at Hibbs Hooten Field at Sellers Park. After Monday, there will be no baseball game at home until April 28 because of the schedule. Jones said the city is looking into getting that project completed between Monday’s home game with Rose Hill and the Circle game on April 28. Close Forgot password?
