FRISCO, Texas – Abilene Christian’s Jonathan Sheehy and New Orleans’ Trang Dao are the Southland Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by MidSouth Bank.Sheehy went 6-0 between singles and doubles play during a 3-0 roadtrip for the Wildcats, who improved to a conference-leading 10-3 this spring.Having played 13 matches in the opening month of play, Abilene Christian will take the weekend off before a road test against SMU presents itself at 5 p.m. CT on Friday, Feb. 22.Dao played a vital role in a 4-0 weekend for the Privateers, extending their hot start to 6-0, the best team start to a spring season in program history since 2003. She came out on top of all three singles matches and went 3-1 in doubles play.New Orleans is also idle this weekend and returns to the courts with a pair of home matches against Spring Hill and Troy at 11 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday, respectively.Men’s Tennis Player of the Week – Jonathan Sheehy, Abilene Christian – Junior – Arlington, TexasExtending his singles winning streak to nine matches, Sheehy posted straight-set victories at the top slot against Colorado State-Pueblo and Montana. The Arlington, Texas, native had to battle back from a set one loss to earn a point against Air Force, winning the final set 7-6 (5).In doubles action, Sheehy took care of the No. 2-slot pairs from CSU Pueblo and Air Force alongside Cole Lawson before edging the top-line squad from Montana 7-6 (5) with brother Josh. He’s won six of his 11 doubles matches with three different partners this season. (6-1). Dao partnered with Mar Gendra for a pair of second-slot doubles wins against Prairie View A&M (6-4) and Louisiana Tech (6-4).
