Apple Updates iPod Touch But What About iPhone SE

first_img Unless we’re talking about $1,000 iPhones, you can’t really count on Apple to update its products with the same frequency as it once used to. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If these machines are supposed to be so useful and wonderful then yeah they should totally last for more than twelve months without being rendered obsolete. And when an aging device does get an update, like the iPad Air and iPad Mini, it can be even more exciting because you weren’t expecting it.And we definitely weren’t expecting this. After four years, Apple just dropped a surprise new revision of the iPod Touch.Historically the “iPhone without the phone,” the iPod Touch lets users enjoy the form-factor of an iPhone along with the apps and functionality of iOS without having to tether yourself to a carrier’s data plan. This became slightly less of an issue as unlocked phones became the norm, but the iPod Touch still served a niche of parents who didn’t want to get their kids a phone just yet. I enjoyed an iPod Touch for years before getting an iPhone. And now that flagship iPhones like the XS Max are so expensive, the iPod Touch lets you dip into that ecosystem without breaking the bank. The new iPod Touch, starting at $199, just brings you closer to that experience. It has the A10 Fusion processor of the iPhone 7 for improved overall performance and specific perks like group FaceTime and augmented reality support in games like Angry Birds, Pokemon Go, and the upcoming Minecraft: Earth. Other specs include an 8MP rear camera and potential 40-hour battery life. But as someone who thinks phones are just too big, I appreciate the new iPhone Touch as a new Apple product that retains a manageable 4-inch screen. Makes me wonder where the next-gen iPhone SE is and worry about whether or not it keeps the headphone jack. These new iPod Touch models are available now in a variety of colors (Space Gray, Gold, Silver, Pink, Blue, and Red) and storage configurations (32GB, 128GB, 256GB).
